March Event Schedule (plus other stuff)
There are no dues to be a member of Old Bats & Red Hats,
and everyone is welcome to participate in our activities. Our chapter is rather
informal regarding dress code, so please dress for comfort. Please
contact the appropriate Red Hat Chapter directly if the event is not run by our
Chapter, and dress accordingly. Lots of Red Hat Society (worldwide) events take
place all the time. Go to www.redhatsociety.com for information on
events held by Red Hat Quarters. If you commit to an activity which has an
associated cost, you will be held accountable if payment is made on your behalf
(and no replacement can be found in time). Please let me know via email at (randy@randygreen.com)
if you wish to join (and receive separate emails) on any of the following
clubs:
Bowling League – held Mondays at 10 am at Lanes & Games, 195 Concord
Turnpike (Alewife), Cambridge 617-876-5533 (we play with the big balls upstairs
in teams.) Lots of laughs!
Dinner and a Movie Club - held the first Tuesday of
each month (6-9 pm approx.)
Book Club - held the second Tuesday of each month (6-8:30 pm)
Scrambled Scrabble - held on some Sunday afternoons – Janis is hosting
this winter
Adventure Dinner - usually held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (6 -
8:30 pm)
Bridge/Mah Jongg - held on Thursdays (1-4 pm)
Note that the above days are conditional on weather, my personal travel plans,

Belmont on Thursday, March 24th in their
“One Book, One Community Choice" program at 7 pm at Beech Street
Center, 266 Beech Street, Belmont. It is open to the public, no reserved
seating, first-come, first-serve basis. For more information, contact Emily

“Let’s Welcome Spring and All its Fun Holidays” Gathering. Site
Characters Pub at the Windham Andover Hotel, 123 Old River Road, Andover (off

Sumptuous Breakfast Buffet. Eggs may to order by our omelet chef. Belgian
Waffles made to order, trays of fresh and dried fruits, cereal (hot and cold),
breakfast breads, pastries, bagels, bacon and sausage, home fries, assorted
juices, coffee, tea, and decaf stations in our private room. Hosted by Red Hat
Funseekers and Red Hat Ding-a-Lings of Nashua, NH. Cost $20 inclusive of tax
and tip before 2/22/11 with entertainment. Reservation paid on or after 2/23/11
will be $22So register early, all must prepay. Limit 2 reps per chapter, most
suitable for Queen and Vice Queen or other member in leadership. Tea Cub
Exchange: Please bring a tea cup or mug to exchange with your favorite brand of
tea. Be sure to include your name, chapter on the card. Refund policy: If you
let the Registrar know at least the day before the event directly, we will
credit you for the next QOE gathering. Emails, telephone calls, or just be able
to show up the day of the even will not permit us to refund your reservation,
as those funds have already been given to the hotel. QOE
has no dues, no mandatory gatherings you must attend and so Gathering Costs
must be covered in full by the attendees at each gathering/meeting. Questions

Sat., Mar. 12th, 5:30 pm – 10 pm: Jewish Film Festival, Brandeis/Wasserman, Waltham. The Human Resources Manager starts at 5:30 pm. English subtitles. When a foreign worker at Israel’s largest bakery is killed in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem, a forlorn HR manager finds himself leading an awkward funerary road trip that includes the dead woman’s rebellious son, a pesky journalist, corrupt politicians and an eccentric Israeli consul in this dark comedy. Winner of 5 Israeli Academy Awards, including best picture and best screenplay. Gainsbourg starts at 8 pm. English subtitles. A stylish, sexy and boldly imaginative biopic of French Jewish singer and provocateur Serge Gainsbourg, follows the musician from his childhood in Nazi-occupied Paris through his painting and musical careers and his romantic entanglements with, among others, Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin. Order adventurously with roast beef tendon and tripe with chili sauce, dumplings, cucumber with fresh garlic, sour cabbage with steamed bacon, sautéed cumin lamb with spicy sauce. Sat., May 21st, 11 am – 3 pm, Annual Red Hat Garden Party Luncheon, sponsored by the Colliston Classics Red Hatters, Holiday Inn, Tewksbury (Rte. 495, exit 39). Cost: $30. Menu includes Garden Vegetable Soup, Mandarin Chicken Salad served on a flaky croissant, accompanied by traditional summer potato and past salads, dessert de jour, choice of coffee, tea, or soda.
